Free wood chip available

Free wood chip available

We have had some wood chip dropped off near the top gate. There are two piles – the left one is mainly willow ( hardwood ) and the pile on the right is a mix of soft and hard woods with a little conifer mixed in.

The willow is perfect for mulching under fruit bushes and trees and or making paths.
The mixed chip is good for paths and for mulching ericaceous plants.

Both can also be used by new tenants as a mulch to cover cardboard, to keep your newly uncovered beds weed free while you deal with the rest of the plot.

There is also now some manure in the concrete bay for plot holders. This is uncomposted so should be kept in a pile over winter or added to your compost rather than going direct onto beds.

If you are on the bottom end of the allotments, there is a big bag of wood chip on the front of the community allotment ( Plot 56 ) for anyone to take from. Please do not take from the composting wood chip pile further back.
